Rattan Birdhouse

These handmade bird houses can be placed in gardens, patios, or other outdoor areas where they can be enjoyed as decorative elements that add a touch of natural beauty to the surroundings. Whether or not a bird nests, depends on a variety of circumstances. 

This birdhouse uses a lighter rattan. The cane changes the rattan colour to a grey with an undertone tinge of green as pictured. It is different tonal colour than our larger gauge rattans products.

Kubu is a technique where the harvested rattan is submerged in a pond of mud and leaves for about four weeks - before weaving the baskets. 

We have three types of birdhouses. This pictured one is made from a fine kubu rattanfrom Cirebon, Java, Indonesia.

We also have a birdhouse made of hogla and upcycled saree and hogla.  Both of these are from Bangladesh.
