Khadi Print Cotton Tablecloth

Fair Go Trading

This khadi print tablecloth is unique with its intricate block print patterns and hand sewn sequins

"In India, Khadi is not just a cloth, it is a whole movement started by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The Khadi movement promoted an ideology, an idea that Indians could be self-reliant on cotton and be free from the high priced goods and clothes which the British were selling to them". (Wikipedia)

For the centre panel, the craftperson has carefully hand-carved a wooden printing block to show us a wonderland of people, animals and plants. This scene has then been block-printed in contrasting black on unbleached natural cotton.

The sides sparkle with zigzag precision as the sequinned panels have been cleverly offset and handmade by Chetna (pictured).
