Shaloney shawls are undyed, natural silk. The slight variations in colour are a result of mixing the threads from the different cocoon made by individual silk caterpillars, some are lighter, some flecked and some darker. The threads that make the shawls are first handspun, then the fabric is then handwoven using a simple pedal technique. If you hold the shawl up to the light, you can see in some places the threads are thicker and others finer, this is the wonderful effect of handspun silk.
